School Programs Overview

August Wilson Center for African American Culture’s school programs are designed to foster a love and understanding of the performing and visual arts. We also aim to strengthen the ties between art on display and everyday experiences. Drawing upon the Center’s performing arts, education program offerings and special exhibitions at Gallery 209/9, our school programs are a unique educational resource to schools and organizations throughout Western Pennsylvania and beyond.

The school programs offered are grade-specific, with pre-visit, post-visit and in-gallery materials provided as part of the educational experience. Each program will include a walking tour and lesson in the galleries preceded or followed by an adjournment to the Education Center for further interaction and teacher-led responsive activities.
